Rob’s Blog – Top 5 Gigs of 2013

It’s been yet another awesome year for all things heavy! Here’s my Top 5 gigs that I’ve seen this year…

5. Soundgarden – Birmingham Academy.

A greatest hits show to die for, nice and intimate (ish) and a spot on performance. A great chance to see the original grunge kings in the flesh on these shores as shows have been few and far between since that reunion. It was a beauty!

CL4. Clutch – Rock City

On the back of the awesome Earth Rocker album; there were plenty of folks crammed into Rock City to see these hard rockers. Maybe a little too heavy on the new stuff for some, but it was a show that certainly went down a treat for me.

3. Iron Maiden – London O2 Arena

A reincarnation of the ‘Seventh Son’ tour. Quite simply hit after hit after hit…you get the picture. Oh they played ‘Afraid to Shoot Strangers’ too!

2. High On Fire – Stoke Sugarmill

My first and loudest gig of the year.  To the untrained ear High on Fire sound like a tractor falling down a steep cliff face. Stoner greatness I’d say…

1. The Wildhearts – Rock City

My favourite band – playing my favourite album – in my favourite venue in the world. What could go wrong? Nothing! It was AWESOME.

What were your favourites eh?
