The Fratellis – Nottingham 16/12/15 – Review by Tanya Russell Music Reviews by Editor - December 16, 20150 As the crowd finish clapping along to the intro music, THE FRATELLIS take to the stage and launch into BABY DON’T YOU LIE TO ME and the crowd start stomping to the rifftastic indie rock and roll. The pounding rythmn of HENRIETTA has the audience jumping with arms aloft and singing along to the infectious track. HALLOWEEN has the crowd continuing to move to the stop start beat; THE FRATELLIS are definitely not a band that you stand and watch…this is a participatory event! A crazed crowd sing along to FLATHEAD and the man next to me is so delighted that he whips off his shirt and waves it furiously above his head whilst chanting along with the rest of the audience. Jon Fratelli’s bluesy voice is perfectly showcased in the tumbling tune DOGTOWN, which has the crowd swaying and stamping their feet to the rolling rythmn, whilst A HEADY TALE keeps the pace rolling and the dancing set to maximum. A storming rendition of SHE’S NOT GONE YET leads us to my favourite song, the beautiful WHISTLE FOR THE CHOIR, with the crowd singing along to this shimmering symphony. IMPOSTERS shows THE FRATELLIS’ ability to make beautiful melodies with catchy repeated refrains and is followed by ME AND THE DEVIL, which has the center section of the crowd pogoing energetically to the riff. Rattling rapidly through HIPPY and the melodic DESPERATE GUY, THE FRATELLIS are packing the set full of powerful songs of bluesy beautiful and dance inducing anthems. EVERYBODY KNOWS and FOR THE GIRL follow, with the crowd singing along. The rolling riffs of ACID JAZZ SINGER compel the crowd into clapping which speeds up to a rapid pace at the start of WE NEED MEDICINE. The crowd then hit full on party momentum as the band perform BABY FRATELLI and everyone sings along with arms raised and plenty of racous jumping around, which continues during the ditty to debauchery TOO MUCH WINE. THE FRATELLIS leave the stage but the crowd are not fooled and start singing that most memorable of riffs. They are clearly not leaving without hearing CHELSEA DAGGER. The band return to the stage and the audience are soon woohooing to VINCE and jumping around to the thundering rythmn of THIEF. The crowd is then predicatably incadescent with jubilantion at the opening drum roll of CHELSEA DAGGER and enjoy a crashing crescendo of a conclusion with a rocking cover of RUNAROUND SUE. THE FRATELLIS have certainly ensured that we will be rocking around our Christmas tree this evening, after a bit of a rest because such intense dancing has left our feet a little sore!
