MOTORHEAD – ‘The World is Ours – Vol 2 – Anyplace Crazy as Anywhere Else’ DVD Review Music Reviews by Rob W - September 22, 20120 Hot on the heels of Volume I, Motorhead are back with another great package of live material. Once again ‘The World is Ours – Vol 2 – Anyplace Crazy as Anywhere Else’ (I’ll call it Vol 2 from now!) comes in a vast array of packages, with the main edition coming as a Double CD and DVD version. As the CDs are simply the audio from the DVD, we’ll concentrate on the visuals… The main show is taken from 2011’s headline performance at Wacken. With the festival widely regarded as the best festival in the world dedicated to Heavy Metal, that’s a pretty good start. From the familiar introduction of “We are Motorhead, we play Rock and Roll” right through to the equally familiar extended encore version of ‘Overkill’, the band simply own the stage. Anyone who’s ever seen Motorhead live will be only too aware of the gimmick free attitude towards the show. In fact, apart from the legendary ‘Bomber’ lighting rig, very little happens. Lemmy remains rooted to the spot rarely venturing more than a stride away from the microphone whilst Phil casually roams the stage peeling off the legendary riffs and solos. This of course is by no means a problem. Motorhead are legendary for one reason; they play rock and roll and they’re damn good at it. You don’t need fancy action packed stage shows when you have tunes like ‘Killed by Death’, ‘Rock Out’, ‘Stay Clean’ and that quite famous song named after a playing card. Whether the tracks are brand new or old favourites, they’re all fantastic. Motorhead are one of those bands that have been allowed to create very similar albums for decades without a single complaint from anyone. You can’t improve on what Motorhead do, and nobody wants to change it for the worse. So, on they go playing awesome shows like this. After the grand headline slot at Wacken you also get some snippets of two more shows. The huge scale of Rock in Rio never fails to amaze, but the Sonisphere UK show has a tinge of sadness attached. Lemmy starts the show by dedicating it to former guitarist Wurzel who had passed away the night before. The show sees the band far more relaxed than the Wacken show with ‘In the Name of Tragedy’ particularly being a fitting tribute to their former guitar wiz. Vol 2 is again a great package of material from the legendary Motorhead. ‘No Sleep to Hammersmith’ will always be THE Motorhead live album to own, but packages like these just show how consistently brilliant Lemmy and his men have been ever since that legendary recording. This is a worthwhile investment for hardcore fans and casuals alike. Long live Rock and Roll…long live Motorhead! 8/10 ‘Anyplace Crazy as Anywhere Else’ is out now!
