PULLED APART BY HORSES Live at Y-Not Festival 2012

The Quarry Stage was fit to burst with folks eager to see the Saturday night headliners. Pulled Apart by Horses managed to fill the tent like no other band throughout the weekend and by 9.15 the atmosphere was electric with expectation. When they hit the stage a few minutes past their start time, the tent erupted with screams and whistles and the chaos got under way!

Pulled Apart by Horses occupy a rare and enviable position amongst guitar bands at the minute. They have yet to be firmly pigeon-holed by fans and the press alike, and that works in their favour to large extent. Not many bands receive regular airplay on daytime Radio 1, whilst receiving  good press from the more alternative magazines and having fans like Ginger Wildheart. Having said that, not many bands are as good and exciting as Pulled Apart by Horses.

The crowd consisted of the youngest and oldest punters at Y-Not, but everyone present lapped up everything the band threw at them. The energy in the tent was magnificent, and the razor sharp riffs and pulverising vocals only whip the crowd up into a whirlwind of energy. The fans don’t know whether to mosh or boogie as the band throw their Sabbath heavy riffs and party boogie together into the mix.

The bands sense of humour shines through brightly on several occasions, proof that they are more than comfortable in this environment. Tom plays one song with his trousers around his ankles and during the final track, the instantly recognisable ‘High Five, Swan Dive, Nose Dive’, the band instigate a giant conga to celebrate an ace gig. The conga even makes it past security into the press pit but is stopped sharp at the other end by a meaner spirited security man!

A victorious headline set by worthy headliners in the tent. Don’t let anyone tell you that guitar music is dead and that all the best music is in the past. Pulled Apart by Horses are unashamedly modern and they’re just a little bit good too!
