COLLISIONS – Once Weary Eyes Music Reviews by Editor - May 9, 20120 Brighton based Collisions are relatively fresh faces to the UK rock circuit but have got their first video out there, courtesy of just two phone cameras and some home video footage. The video for ‘Once Weary Eyes’ has just appeared on the web and should accompany a March release of the single. The “fast synthing/heavy riffing” four piece blend together some straight up crunching heavy metal riffs with dub and electronic patterns to great effect. The snappy vocals are complimented by a big sing-along ‘whooaa-wooaa-whoooo’ and some more aggressive shouts to ensure there’s plenty going on in this song. It’s a well-crafted tune which I’m sure is already a highlight of the live set and will be a floor filler in the near future. It’s always easy to compare bands that employ synths and general electronic music alongside rock and metal with the old favourites such as The Prodigy or Pitchshifter. Collisions also have a bit of that Skindred bounce about them too while the fast dominant synths give a real European feel to the music. In essence they are a band of many influences and seem to be carving out a great sound of their own. The video is great too considering the tools used to create it. The basic crowd-view concert footage is mixed up with some shaky on-stage footage and some behind the scenes home video. The bands acting skills are fully demonstrated during the intro with a quick Star Wars skit too! Collisions are well worth the 3 minutes it takes to check out their new video online and should be coming to a town near you soon! Rob
