Marcus Reeves – Black Tears – Review

Writing of a ‘Mad Bad World’, Magic Marcus charms us with his jazz-hands and spiralling vocal summits. Marcus wraps you right around his obscurely black gloved fingers with his muse of talent. It’s the sort of voice you’d attribute to an unlikely superhero originally disguised as a bit of an anomaly, yet wins you over with the surprisingly soothing façade and mesmerising vocals, (unveil the EP’s artwork for yourself and you’ll be just as intrigued).

The initial patience of the piano (‘Mad Bad World’) creates an eerily curious tale that we don’t want to only know, but understand. The drama surrounding character Marcus, attention to musical detail another addition, lies in not solely in his career as a musician but performance poet as well as actor. When the chorus of ‘Black Tears’ hits too, it’s certainly not difficult to picture emphatic theatrical motions weaving in and out of intricate musical webs Spiderman would be proud of. Gospel girls’ acapella harmonies hold up and support the narrator’s sentiment at recent heartbreak- you can’t help but feel the magic behind the emotion.

EP Black Tears will be released on the 5th November 2012.
