John Wean::: M.A.P

John Wean are four fellas from Uddington, Scotland who formed the band in 2009 and started writing songs about life, love and girls. They release their new single ‘M.A.P.’ on 29 October 2012. The song was produced and mixed by Ewan Davies [Arctic Monkeys ,The  Darkness and Editors].  The good news is that it’s a quality track.

It’s a slice of gold plated, old fashioned indie-rock. This is music in the key of does what it says on the tin. Namely guitar rock as it should be played, with no side of ironic new wave or layered approach to melody. It’s spiky, guitar driven rock, with straightforward bass and drums added on for good measure. Conor Cartwright’s vocals come over all Alex Turner in its delivery. The lads have clearly spent some time listening to The Strokes and they manage to sound like the New York hipsters mashed up with a dash of the Proclaimers. It’s simple 4×4 rock and most importantly, it works.

The wheel isn’t being reinvented here but neither are they trying to. The Scotsmen have set out to create a barnstorming Indie tune and from where this reviewer is listening, they have achieved and then some.
