DEAD SONS – Room 54 (single) Review Music Reviews by Editor - May 9, 20120 Dead Sons will release their ‘Room 54’ single on the 4th June. It will be available as a limited edition 7” and digital download through Dead Young Records. Sheffield’s Dead Sons are one of the latest in a long line of guitar bands streaming out of Yorkshire at the moment. Alongside bands like Hawk Eyes, Wet Nuns, Pulled Apart by Horses and the Eureka Machines, Yorkshire is making one hell of a sweet-sounding racket right now! Opening with a galloping riff and bomb-blast of drums, ‘Room 54’ is a full-pelt driving anthem. Musically they have a stoner/desert vibe going on with the obvious Queens of the Stone Age comparisons ringing true for once. Vocally, Rowley looks a lot closer to home for inspiration than the Californian desert, with a Sheffield twang not too far away from that other famous band from Dead Sons hometown. The tune is a quick and effective insight into the band’s sound, upbeat but brilliantly claustrophobic. The b-side, or more commonly known as the other track these days, is a slower number. ‘The Execution of Lily Rose’ has a haunting sound reminiscent of Nick Cave. The video for ‘Room 54’ has just been released and can be viewed at the bands website www.deadsons.co.uk and they are currently on tour including a Sheffield Tramlines show at The Leadmill with Wet Nuns, on May 19th.
