From the ashes of indie rock band Flannery (1998-2002), R.M Hendrix has gone on to craft a style and sound which could be epitomized as psychedelic Nu-gaze brit-pop.
The EP “Pink Skin” follows this year’s earlier single “Summer Dresses” and is Hendrix’s 10th self-release which has been mastered by Jason Martin from Starflyer 59.
“Pink Skin” comprises of The Last Days of Black, Staring into the Sun and Lipstick and Perfect Hair, three songs which have been consciously crafted on listening to induce a psychedelic mind-altering head trip. The layers of dirty feedback, breezeblock-sized walls of guitars and cascades of tripped out vocals are in Hendrix’s own words “written to help you taste color, see sound and feel everything all at once”.
Pink Skin is laced with brit-pop Nu-gaze and psychedelic influences, but at no point does it feel as if the EP is merely harping back to the past.
Despite the clear nostalgic presence at work, Pink Skin manages to retain a semblance of self-identity that is sure to influence others as they begin to taste smell and feel ”Pink Skin”.
The EP will be available exclusively from Solar Underground Music on September 18.
