No Doubt – Settle Down – Review Music Reviews by Editor - September 18, 20120 No Doubt are back on the scene. It’s been a while since the band, who have been making music together for over 25 years, filled the radio with their way of combining rock, pop and reggae. Settle Down is the lead single from their upcoming album Push and Shove; their first in 11 years and due for release on 25 September. It doesn’t show a massive development in their music of the last few years, but stays on an even keel with fun beats and a summer feeling to get you dancing. Settle Down continues to mix the band’s love for dance-hall and reggae with electro-pop and simple lyrics. Gwen Stefani’s unmistakable voice is punchy and consistent throughout. That Ska edge can heard; a nice blend of genres mixed to create a dance-floor hit. There is an electro sound but it’s still apparent they’re playing all their instruments; something that needs mentioning for all those electro haters. After all No Doubt are a band who can play, from their first album up to this single they’ve stayed true to their roots of making the music that they enjoy, but also creating sounds that appeal to a mass of fans; the rockers and the dancers. Settle Down might not appeal to everyone, it’s not exactly marmite but it may have old fans divided. Wait for the album I’d say, knowing this band there will be some gems that sparkle. Fran Bonner
