Three-piece London band, Ravens in Paris, show the music scene classic indie bringing back the glory days of the Libertines and Editors, with some Bloc Party thrown in.
It’s no surprise then to know that the EP was recorded by Gavin Monaghan (kings of Leon, Editors), James Ewan and Darren Lawson (Block Party, White Lies, Klaxons and Razorlight).
Due for release on Friday 14 September at Camden Barfly ‘Club Jubilee’ (Carl Barat’s night), Dirty Little Secret is their debut EP and it’s really rather exciting, particularly if you are a fan of any of the above bands.
The songs sound heavily influenced by the Libertines and Barat’s next project, Dirty Pretty Things – it’s obvious to hear how the instrumentation takes from songs like ‘Bang Bang You’re Dead’ but also others from the Libertines first album.
The title song Dirty Little Secret has elements of Bloc Party’s intense and chaotic rhythms running throughout, yet the band still manage to make the sound current (not that Bloc Party are passed it) but it’s important for a band like this to be able to show their own slant on the style of its influences and recorders.
Dirty Little Secret provides an eclectic glimpse of nostalgia but with a unique flair that will help them stand out on their own. It’s the indie rock and roll you want to hear, when you think about indie rock and roll.
Hideaway is a perfect club song, catchy from start to finish and an ideal dance floor hit for an indie club. Dirty guitar riffs, powerful drumming and with the lead singer’s rough, yet articulate voice driving the lyrics into the listener’s head.
Ravens in Paris are worth checking out, – if I were in London in the 14th I know where’d I’d be heading.
