Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs has come up with a fresh roar of energy far from prehistoric. Making rapid tracks, TEED’s debut album ‘Trouble’ hit the Top 5 iTunes album chart in June, just two months ahead of ‘Household Goods’ August 13th re-release [Polydor Records].
Behind trendy TEED is Oxford alumni Orlando Higginbottom. Not so stereotypical. Formerly a music teacher but now too cool for school, Mister Higginbottom (and that’s a mouthful too) booms out rhythms that any choir master father would be proud of, certainly making an Example. ‘Household Goods’ originally got TEED’s babyface (and voice) on our screens back in 2010 with Hot Chip member Joe Goddard’s Greco-Roman label, yet now comes five for the price of one, talent oozing. The dino’s “you look shit, all alone, so give me a shot cause I could be the dog to your bone, or something” awkward advances remain, but the extra flavour of dance remix stirs TEED (with a little help from disc jockeys Zinc, Mano Le Tough, Enei, Lil Silva and Zeds Dead) into true house material. Ibiza central.
With ‘Household Goods’ already a TEED live hit, it’s easy to imagine the remixes also going down particularly well. Zinc and Lil Silvia enhance the percussions with infectious beats as well as synth alterations, dancefloor oomph recreated. Enei heavies the bass, toying with speed and lyrics. Mano Le Tough puts the hardcore into house, with emphasis on the instrumental. Last but not least, Zeds Dead. A personal favourite, satisfyingly enough electro.
Dubstep, but better. Vocals guaranteed.
