Community Rallies in Belper: “We Shall Overcome” Event Returns June 13–14

As the cost of living crisis continues to bite, the Belper community is coming together once again to support those most affected. The grassroots event “We Shall Overcome” returns this June 13 and 14, with a powerful message of solidarity, music, and mutual aid.

The weekend kicks off on Friday, June 13 at Christ Church on The Triangle, Belper, and continues Saturday, June 14 at The Queen’s Head. These events aim to raise funds for Hope for Belper, a local charity supporting families and individuals in financial hardship.

This year’s lineup is already packed with local talent including Kingfisher Blue, Phil Doleman, Pete Castle, Annette Oakes, Ed Hulse, Sarah Newby, Sarah Hinds, Nansy Ferrett, Maggie Braley, and Dale Rowles—with even more names expected to be announced.

But this weekend isn’t just about live music. Belper is also launching a brand-new CD featuring local artists, with all proceeds going directly to help those struggling to make ends meet.

Organisers are urging the community to turn out in support, noting that “there has never been a more important time to lend a helping hand.” With winter approaching, and many families already under pressure, these events offer a way to give back—and be part of something hopeful.

Space at The Queen’s Head is limited (just 40 capacity), so early attendance is advised. For more details or to get involved, contact mjones572@hotmail.co.uk.

We Shall Overcome A promise, loud, local, and louder still when we stand together.
