Blue Gillespie – Act V – Grim Determination

Well, Blue Gillespie certainly don’t seem the types to just jam out any old rubbish. The Newport (South Wales) Prog/Metal four-piece are about to unleash ‘Grim Determination’ as a digital single on March 1st. The single is the first taste of the master plan that is their album ‘Seven Rages of Man’. The album is inspired by and structured according to a work of Shakespeare and also contains influence from Greek Mythology and Tragedy. I told you they weren’t just making this up as they go along…

The track starts of very Doomy, and on first listen I thought this was going to be some sort of Sabbath worship. The track soon changes course and ends up taking a more progressive path. Angular and Choppy riffs take over from the Doom and pick the pace up nicely. The track builds and falls regularly and the pace is ever changing but far from pedestrian. Various vocal styles are employed from a Grand Magus style bark to an almost ‘New Metal’ rap adding to the chaos.

It’s chaos meant in a good way though. There are plenty of new Prog/Djent bands appearing all the time at the minute but Blue Gillespie may just be on to something here.  This serves as great taster for what should be an interesting album later on in the year.
