Hello folks! Hope you’ve nearly done your Christmas shopping and haven’t left it till the last minute like me. My nearest and dearest may well be a bit disappointed with their pressies this year.
Well we’ve done my Top 10 Metal albums for 2011, Evile’s Five Serpents Teeth came out on top if you missed it. I hope you concur with some of them but I also hope I may have flagged one or two up that you missed. Let us know what you think via the website or on Twitter @Lyricloungerev.
So it seems natural that once we’ve wrapped up 2011 that we should start looking forward to what 2012 has to offer. There’s plenty to get excited about; festivals have started revealing headliners etc, there are plenty of tours booked in and sold out already but today I’m going to concentrate on the albums that I’m looking forward to getting my hands on after the New Year.
Here’s six of the best (according to me!)
Orange Goblin will be back on Valentine’s Day with their seventh album Eulogy for the Damned. You can get a taste for the new stuff in the form of the track Red Tide Rising that has just been released via the web. They’ve been a little overlooked by the mass media over the past few years which is a dreadful shame as they are one of the best British straight up Heavy Metal bands out there. Hopefully this album will get them some well-deserved recognition.
Lamb of God is the big one for me. They have yet to drop an album on us that isn’t brilliant and judging by the reactions of people who have heard it, this one will be no different. A sneak preview in the form of one track, Ghost Walking has already been released and it’s a belter. The band are planning a two-year tour in support of it and have hinted at festival appearances this year in Europe. Exciting stuff! The album is called Resolution and it’s out on the 23rd January, so there’s not long to wait.
Ginger Wildheart and the Wildhearts are responsible for some of my favourite music in the world so it’s no surprise that I’m salivating for this one. It’s a triple album and it’s paid for by us, the fans, through the relatively new concept of Pledge Music. There are lots of guests on here to keep the 30 tracks exciting including most of the Wildhearts. It should be out early February but you’ve got to pledge before then or you cant have it!
Killswitch Engage have been away for a while and I wasn’t sure that they would be back with Adam D getting back with Jesse Leech for an album and all that weird talk of Howards private life etc. They are still at the demo stage but it’s confirmed that a new album will be out by the summer. Just in time for the festivals then ;)
Gojira are back into the studio recording a follow up to their awesome The way of all Flesh. The French metallers have a lot to do to better their previous album but I have every confidence. There may be a stopgap E.P. before the official album hits but it will be sometime this year.
Savage Messiah have released their latest offering for free over at the Earache website. All you need is an email address. Plague of Conscience is a blistering Thrash metal revival packed full of fantastic riffs and hooks. Another great British heavy metal band for us to savour. You can download it now or the hard copy comes out early in 2012 if you prefer it that way.
I’m sure there will be much more on the way that we don’t know about. There will be a Black Sabbath album at some point to coincide with the latest reunion but details are very sketchy at the minute.
As for the rest, well take them as they come eh?
Merry Christmas!
